We centralized messaging targeted specifically for West Marin to address public health and disaster preparedness in our zones. We learned a lot from this project including, how to curate rapidly changing information and create regional access to it through communication channels with community-based and faith-based organizations. The state’s staff will support everyone age 12 and older with booking, changing, canceling a vaccine appointment, or arranging transportation to a vaccine site. Getting your Child Vaccinated for COVID-19
Marin County children ages 5-11 are now eligible to receive the Pfizer-BioNTech's COVID-19 vaccine, following confirmation from Governor Gavin Newsom on November 3. This follows a sequence of reviews and recommendations by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup (WSSSRW), and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).
Pediatric vaccinations will begin at some Marin County locations on Saturday, November 6. Go to https://coronavirus.marinhhs.org/vaccinefinder to make an appointment; please be sure to select the "EligibilityAge 5-11" filter.
Vaccine appointments are strongly recommended. There is strong demand for the vaccine, and not all vaccine locations will allow walk-ins. If possible, plan ahead. Pediatric vaccine supply is beginning to ship from manufacturers to vaccine providers across the United States. The first doses have arrived in Marin County. However, many vaccine providers will not receive their shipments until the week of November 8, with larger amounts of vaccine expected in later November. Appointments will be limited until more vaccine is available.
Preparing for Vaccine Appointments
When preparing for your child's appointment, be sure to plan! Know what you need to bring to make it a smooth experience for both you and your child.
Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian
Parents must show proof of age for the child being vaccinated. A birth certificate is acceptable.
Talk to your child before vaccination about what to expect.
It is not recommended you give pain relievers before vaccination to try to prevent side effects.
Tell the doctor or nurse about any allergies your child may have.
After your child's COVID-19 vaccination, you will be asked to stay for 15-30 minutes so your child can be observed in case they have a severe allergic reaction and need immediate treatment.
Full vaccination requires two doses and two appointments. When your child gets the first dose, the provider should schedule the second appointment.
Kaiser Permanente Members
Kaiser Permanente is now booking appointments for children ages 5-11 online at KP.org/covidvaccine. Most appointments are expected to begin next week, though if vaccine supplies are available sooner, we will make every effort to offer appointments earlier. We encourage Kaiser Permanente members to make an appointment for a no-cost COVID vaccination at the site most convenient for them, including the county sites, schools, retail pharmacy sites, and Kaiser Permanente facilities.
This past month, Marin County Public Health launched the COVID-19 Self-Test Reporting form, a way for Marin residents to report the results of their at-home COVID-19 tests that do not require laboratory processing. These over-the-counter tests often called “rapid tests” or Binax tests (one popular brand name), are growing in popularity and availability. Marin County Public Health must know where new cases are occurring and make sure those infected have the support they need. This new form helps close that feedback loop.
The brief online form collects information about the test result, reason for the test, the date, the brand, basic demographic factors, and contact information. Public Health has privacy and security measures in place to safeguard personally identifiable information.
Please help us share this info with these social media graphics (English | Spanish) and quarter-page flyers. If your workplace distributes self-test kits as part of routine testing, please consider including a ¼ page flyer with that kit.

These webinars are a collaboration between the CA Department of Health Care Services Office of Family Planning, the CA Prevention Training Center, CDPH Vaccinate All 58, and #ThisIsOurShot.
Masks are not required outdoors but are strongly recommended in crowded environments. Everyone is strongly encouraged to also wear masks indoors at private gatherings where vaccination status cannot be confirmed.
California's masking requirements remain in effect. Everyone must wear masks in the following settings, regardless of vaccination status:
Public transit
Hospitals
Long-term care facilities
Homeless shelters
Indoors in K-12 schools, childcare, and other youth settings
Additionally, unvaccinated residents will still need to wear masks under the state’s face-covering order in indoor public environments.
In some other Bay Area counties, face coverings or masks continue to be required and must be worn over the mouth and nose in all indoor public settings, regardless of vaccination status. Examples of indoor public environments include offices, retail stores, restaurants, bars, theaters, family entertainment centers, conference centers, and State and local government offices serving the public.
