Most months, the Southeast and Eastern regions present some training.  We are looking for suggestions.  Is there a topic that you would like us to arrange training about? Is there a trainer or training that you would recommend?  Please text ideas to Rev Beth at 321-431-0637.

The region keeps a list of people who want to speak on Sunday or who want to visit various churches. The list is not published on the website to reduce identity fraud. Any church may request the list by calling Rev. Beth at 321-431-0637. Anyone that would like to be included on the list can call her.

If you can recommend anyone please send their name, contact phone and email, and the area where they might be a resource such as: Google, live streaming, Facebook, Instagram, databases, mail programs, accounting programs or cyber security to Rev. Beth at 321-431-0637.

by Deni Miller Ralston, LUT Rep, Southeast Region Unity

If there is something in our life that is constant, it is change.  As LUTs, we are used to change, in our personal lives, and in our LUT life in a church. Changes are made in the minister or board, and in our spiritual life as we change, grow, or figure out that life isn’t always as easy as we might have thought it could be. Even with a dedicated church and minister, finding a place we COULD call home is sometimes a challenge.

For LUTs, life as we know it is happening in ways we might not have imagined, as we move forward with all the changes in what we LUTs do in our responsibilities, how we are regarded, and how we live up to that calling. For many of us, some of the changes have been a long time coming, and for others, LUTs are concerned and not quite so happy with the changes. With all of it comes new responsibility for our LUTs to make sure we stay abreast of changes at the national level with UNITY, to be able to utilize the new vote that each of us who stay active and up to date with our credentials automatically have.  Having a vote, whether it is for a board member for UWM or for a change in policy is just as important for us LUTs to understand as for the ministers to understand. We are on an equal voting platform.  We have the opportunity to show that we are up to the task, or we can shrug it off, and not take our responsibility.  There will be LUTs who may not be interested in what is happening, with ALL the changes, and I hope that is NOT true.  WE have been given an opportunity that has not been offered before.  This is a time for us to shine.

Some of us, though, have not always been given an opportunity to shine.  LUTs can be a wonderful, helpful, and beloved part of our church communities, and surprisingly, some LUTs are very underutilized, or not used at all.  Many times this happens when a minister at the church they have been attending was never an LUT, so they do not understand the amount of time commitment, and financial commitment that we worked through, and many times with a spouse who agreed to spend thousands of dollars, and hundreds of hours on the calling of the one to LUT ranks. LUTs in many instances have made little money, as we may have been limited in what we could do at the church we attended.  Some LUTs are not compensated for Sunday Talks. An LUT should be compensated as any guest speaker would be compensated.

I see lots of possibility for us, as we understand all of the changes, and how we can show up to the table with curiosity, with support from our churches, and the knowing that we will be the best we can be. Hopefully these changes will allow LUTs to shine, with leadership, and dedication to a church that allows us to be an asset to the movement.  An LUT with time, talent, and treasures, who is NOT utilized to help move our spiritual communities ahead is a poor use of someone who could make an enormous difference with their service.
