The collections of the Jewish Archives are physically housed in the Special Collections Division of the University of Washington Libraries. The Jewish Archives are a collaborative project between Special Collections and the Washington State Jewish Historical Society (WSJHS).

The Washington State Jewish Archives (WSJA) grew out of the Seattle Jewish History Project, a collaborative effort begun in 1968, between the Women's Division of the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle and the Manuscripts and University Archives Division (now Special Collections) of the UW Libraries to collect and preserve primary source materials on local Jewish history.

In 1980 the scope was broadened with establishment of the Washington State Jewish Historical Society (WSJHS) as an independent non-profit statewide organization; its mission is to promote interest in and knowledge of the life, history, and culture of the Jewish people and communities of the State of Washington. WSJHS preserves and makes known this unique history through an array of programs that include special events and exhibits, publications including a prize-winning history, Family of Strangers, ongoing interviews with members of the Jewish community to obtain oral histories; tours of historic Jewish Seattle; development of a curriculum and a growing collection of artifacts. The Jewish Archives remain at the core of its activities. In 2016, the WSJHS launched a new digital museum: the Washington Jewish Museum.

The series of themed tracks to link various presentations throughout the Conference will include:
  • Life in the 19th and 20th Century: Looking at the everyday professional lives, interaction with non-Jewish neighbors, and the community religious life in cities, towns, and shtetls offers new insights into our history. • Methodology Track: Employing tools such as innovative organizational techniques, facial recognition, or Google tools enhances the next steps of genealogical research by using advanced computer technology.

  • DNA Insights for Genealogy Track: Becoming more knowledgeable of all that DNA understanding and analysis offers beyond paper records is a critical component for modern genealogical research.
  • Memories Using Stories, Photos and Video: Systems to preserve the stories, photos, and memories of your family to be treasured for generations to come through multiple media methods is an obligation for all genealogists. Sessions teaching these techniques involving both traditional and digital methods are encouraged.
