PAHO calls for curative treatment for hepatitis to reduce thousands of preventable deaths in the Americas
Treating hepatitis C could reduce the risk of developing liver cancer by 75%, yet only 14% of those with the virus in Latin America and the Caribbean are diagnosed and less than 1% receive treatment due to its high cost. PAHO has negotiated lower prices for the Region for hepatitis diagnostics and medicines through the PAHO Strategic Fund. Read more

56th Directing Council - 70th Session of the Regional Committee of WHO

What: Ministers of Health from throughout the Americas will discuss public health policies, address health challenges, and guide the organization's technical cooperation in each country. They will also discuss health systems and services issues, including a plan of action for strengthening the role of human resources for health in achieving universal access to health and universal health coverage. Several parallel events are planned, including the High-Level Commission "Universal Health in the XXI Century: 40 years of Alma-Ata": progress and challenges.
