FESTIVAL QUICK TAKES

A LOOK AT WRIF 2018 ...

This year the festival begins with a look at Lowell Thomas, the original “voice of God” who helped pioneer broadcast journalism (VOICE OF AMERICA) and ends Sunday night with a three-way tie––that’s right, three movies to choose from––in the “richly imagined” period piece, FRANTZ, the suspenseful, fantastically shot thriller THELMA, and a look at life in Cuba set on Havana’s rooftops––the fresh, original EL TECHO (On the Roof).

El Techo

Between Friday and Sunday, WRIF has a coming-of-age tale set in 1930s Sweden (SAMI BLOOD), a raw and real look at US veterans returning home after service (NO GREATER LOVE), and the intimate, beguiling documentary, MANIC, a fascinating chronicle of the filmmaker’s struggle to make sense of the mystery surrounding her father and the legacy of mental illness wreaking havoc in her siblings’ lives. We’ll also take a look at short works from three great Vermont filmmakers (and dig into the making of their films), and we'll showcase films from young Vermont filmmakers, Dartmouth students–and you
