More than half a million at-home COVID-19 tests are headed to the Silver State for Nevada residents as cases continue to soar statewide.

During a news conference Thursday afternoon, Governor Steve Sisolak said the state expects the first shipment of FlowFlex antigen home tests to arrive in Nevada by the end of January.

A bulk of the tests, paid for by federal COVID dollars, will be sent to southern Nevada to help with testing efforts within health and fire districts, libraries, health care clinics and many other community organizations. The other tests kits will be distributed to various locations across the state. Specifics on when and where you'll be able to pick up a COVID-19 test will be released at a later date.

When asked about the number of tests ordered compared to Nevada's population, the governor said the tests are in high demand across the country and the state will continue to order more at-home COVID tests once the initial shipment arrives.

Sisolak added daily COVID-19 cases in Nevada have surpassed a record set during a surge in winter 2020. The governor said this is the fastest case growth we've seen since the start of the pandemic.
