To become a Peer or Family Program Leader:

  • You must be someone who is dedicated to helping reduce stigma and providing support and education.
  • You must commit  to becoming an active leader, after being certified. 
  • You must be a NAMI member
  • You must be active in your local NAMI.
  • You will be asked to provide the name and contact information for an Affiliate leader who can endorse your application.

NAMI Provider Facilitator Training | Healthcare Professionals

NAMI Provider is a staff development program for health care professionals who work directly with people experiencing mental illness. It’s important to understand the unique challenges people and families experience when facing a mental health challenge: social isolation, complex family dynamics and the unpredictability of illness. This program offers the tools health care professionals need to combine the medical and recovery models of care so you can better serve your clients. It’s designed to help enhance the relationships you have with the person in your care, and with their family.

NAMI Family to Family Teacher Training | Family and Friends

NOTE: Candidates must complete an online training session before attending an in-person training).

A free 8-session educational program for family, significant others and friends of people living with mental illness. It is a designated evidenced-based program. NAMI-trained family members who have been there lead the course with presentations, discussion and interactive exercises. The group setting allows you to connect with others and build a community of support.

CIT Youth In Crisis Instructor Training | Law Enforcement & Mental Health Professionals

The CIT Youth in Crisis program addresses the need for specialized training for law enforcement personnel that is focused exclusively on youth. The program is designed to be administered by a team of instructors including mental health professionals and law enforcement representatives who have relevant expertise, leadership abilities, and regional knowledge.

NAMI Basics Teacher Training | Parents and Caregivers

NAMI BASICS is a free new education program for parents and other care givers of children/adolescents living with mental illness. NAMI drew on course elements which have been extensively tested and found to be highly effective.

NAMI Connection Recovery Support Group Facilitator Training | Peers

NAMI Connection Recovery Support Group is a free, peer-led support group for any adult who has experienced symptoms of a mental health condition. You will gain insight from hearing the challenges and successes of others, and the groups are led by trained leaders who've been there.

NAMI Ending the Silence Presenter Training |  Students, School Staff, Parents/Guardians

NAMI Ending the Silence is a presentation designed for middle and high school students, school staff, and parents or guardians of middle or high school-aged youth.

NAMI Homefront Teacher Training | Family Members/Caregivers of Military Service Members

NAMI Homefront is taught by and for family members/caregivers of military service members and veterans dealing with mental health conditions. NAMI Homefront teachers must be willing to share their perspectives as family members/caregivers.

NAMI In Our Own Voice Presenter Training | Leaders with Lived Experience

Note: Candidates must complete an online training session before attending in-person training.

NAMI In Our Own Voice is a presentation for the general public to promote awareness of mental health conditions and recovery. Two NAMI trained leaders, share their story of recovery to reduce stigma, encourage conversation and inspire hope.
