If you walk, drive, bike, take transit or roll in Aurora, there is still time to provide valuable input as part of Connecting Aurora, the city’s first-ever multimodal transportation master plan.

The city extended its deadline to May 31 for online and in-person feedback, following a series of community open houses in April. Paper surveys are available at all Aurora Public Libraries, and a self-guided online open house, survey in 11 languages and other input opportunities are available at EngageAurora.org/ConnectingAurora.

The community is encouraged to share what challenges they face related to transportation and what you care about regarding mobility in this city. The project team is committed to reaching out to diverse voices in this effort and gathering meaningful feedback to make sure the plan reflects the community’s priorities.

It's common to get excited when an Amazon package arrives at the front door, but a Grandview High School student will probably talk about his special delivery from Amazon for years to come. Wait until you hear what was inside! Also on this week's show: The city teams up with a nonprofit and our school districts to help students land a good-paying career in the construction and trade industries after graduation; we talk to the director/producer of a new documentary film featuring northwest Aurora and its amazing diversity; and Aurora's avian power couple is expecting, again. Watch the show trailer at https://www.facebook.com/auroragov/video... and the full show at https://www.auroratv.org/video/aurora-no....

We’re going back to our roots!

For the past two years, the city of Aurora has been busy converting low-use areas of select parks and city properties to water-wise native grasses or drought-tolerant Bermuda turf to conserve water. In 2023, 12 sites underwent conversion to native grasses, which resulted in nearly 7.8 million gallons of water saved. The work continues this year with an additional nine sites, which will result in 11 million gallons of water saved!

The parks are still open for use and fun in the sun! Areas of brown grass or dirt may be noticeable during the conversion process, and residents are encouraged to play and relax in other areas of the parks while seed takes root.

For a list of locations and more information, visit AuroraGov.org/Roots.

The Piney Creek culvert that conveys stormwater underneath the intersection of Arapahoe Road and South Liverpool Street has been permanently closed to people due to increased safety risks related to flooding and sediment.

The closure is happening after the city of Aurora analyzed multiple alternatives to reduce flooding and silting of the culvert and allow for safe pedestrian usage. None of the alternatives analyzed would have provided a safer environment for pedestrians and cyclists. The city determined the alternatives were cost prohibitive or only partially effective. Additional information on the thorough evaluation that occurred is available at AuroraGov.org/PineyCreekCulvert.

The city recently completed at-grade improvements to enhance pedestrian and bicycle safety and travel at this intersection.

Piney Creek Trail users must cross at grade at the intersection, which features newly widened sidewalks and new curb ramps.
