SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — South Kingstown police say they arrested two men accused of driving under the influence just hours apart over the weekend.

Officers pulled over a vehicle around 9 p.m. Saturday for speeding and suspicion of driving impaired.

The driver, identified as James Wilkinson, 50, of North Kingstown, failed a series of field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol level of over three times the legal limit in Rhode Island, according to police.

He was then arrested and charged with suspicion of driving under the influence of liquor and/or drugs.

A short time later, police were called to a report of a single-car crash on Route 1 north just before 2 a.m.

Upon arrival, police say they found an SUV that had gone off the road and struck a utility pole.

The driver, identified as Brody Williams, 20, of South Kingstown, was arrested and charged with suspicion of driving under the influence of liquor and/or drugs and refusal to submit to a chemical test.

Both men are expected to be arraigned in Washington County District Court on Thursday.
