FREETOWN, Mass. (WPRI) — Two people were killed in a car crash in Freetown Tuesday morning, according to Massachusetts State Police.

Police said troopers responded to Route 140 North just after 8 a.m. following reports of a car driving erratically.

While the troopers were on their way, police said another 911 caller reported that the car had veered off the roadway, hit three other vehicles and crashed into a tree.

Both the driver and passenger of the car, identified by police as a 54-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman respectively, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said speed is believed to be a factor in the crash, though the cause remains under investigation.
