WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — A 13-year-old boy was caught in the crossfire during a shooting Saturday in Woonsocket in broad daylight, police tell 12 News.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. near St. Anne’s Church on Cumberland Street.

Police Chief Thomas Oates said the incident involved two people shooting at each other. One of the suspects was hit in the leg and taken to the hospital in police custody.

In the middle of all this, a stray bullet went into an unrelated car and struck a 13-year-old boy in the arm. He suffered minor injuries.

Woonsocket police had blocked off a portion of Cumberland Street for around four hours.

“We heard what sounded like 6 gunshots popping off on the other side of the bedroom wall,” said Robert Dunton, who was home at the time of the shooting.

Dunton has lived in his apartment nearby for two years and told 12 News he feels unsafe.

“This area is getting to be like a shooting gallery,” he said. “It’s not a safe area anymore.”

Police are still looking for the second shooter at this hour. The incident is still under investigation and charges are pending for the suspect in custody.
