FOXBORO, Mass. (WPRI) — An East Providence man is facing more than a dozen charges after he allegedly led police on a pursuit with a stolen vehicle, according to Massachusetts State Police.
Jose L. Bautista, 30, was arrested Sunday and held overnight. He’s expected to be arraigned Monday in court.
The BMW X5 was reported stolen from a Waltham dealership and state police said the investigation led them to an apartment complex on Foxborough Boulevard. After seeing Bautista leave the building and get into the stolen SUV, police approached the vehicle but said he drove off and hit at least four parked vehicles before leaving the scene.
He eventually stopped on Route 140 near I-95 and ran off, scaling a fence into the woods, according to police. While police continued to search for him using a K-9 team and helicopter, they received a tip the suspect was trying to steal a car at a gas station on Commercial Street. They arrested Bautista there after he tried to escape again.
Police said they found a gun in the stolen SUV and a bag of suspected fentanyl along Bautista’s path. Investigators are still searching the area for other evidence he may have discarded.
Bautista is facing the following charges:
- Receiving a stolen motor vehicle
- Receiving stolen property worth greater than $1,200
- Reckless operation of a motor vehicle
- Negligent operation of a motor vehicle
- Attaching license plates
- Leaving the scene of a crash causing property damage (multiple counts)
- Failure to stop for police
- Assault with a dangerous weapon
- Possession of a large-capacity feeding device
- Illegal possession of ammunition
- Trafficking fentanyl
- Possession of a Class E narcotic
- Speeding
- Marked lanes violation
