Woman burying her dead cat finds remains of missing man

A California woman discovered a missing man’s remains while burying her dead cat in her backyard, police said.

The woman, who is not being identified, called the cops after making the gruesome discovery on Saturday. Police said she lived in the Modesto home for a short period of time.

Authorities identified the body as 26-year-old Jacob Sutton-Bubeck, who was reported missing in February by his brother, KCRA reported. A coroner used Sutton-Bubeck’s dental X-rays to confirm his identity.

On Tuesday, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department said they were investigating Sutton-Bubeck’s death as a homicide.

“Due to the different variables that affect decomposition, it is impossible to identify a specific date that Jacob was murdered or when he was buried,” Detective Cory Brown said in a release.

“That is why it is important to talk to people who may have seen him after that date to narrow down a specific timeline.”

Police said only “someone who has intimate knowledge of this crime and how it was committed” would know how Sutton-Bubeck was slain.

No arrests were reported, according to The Modesto Bee.

Anyone with any information on the crime should call Detective Cory Brown at 209-567-4485.
