Tropical Storm Henri could threaten parts of tri-state area with wind, rain

A tropical storm that is churning over the Atlantic Ocean could threaten parts of the tri-state area with wind and rain towards the end of the weekend, forecasters said.

As of late Thursday, Tropical Storm Henri was about 800 miles south of Nantucket, Masschussets, and on Friday the system is expected to head up towards the Northeast, according to Weather.com.

While the exact track of the storm is uncertain, eastern Long Island could be impacted as Henri passes close to the area on Sunday, according to the National Hurricane Center.

High surf is expected to pick up on Friday for much of the Eastern Seaboard, forecasters said.

Henri could intensify into a hurricane as it moves north on Friday. But once it reaches the cooler waters off the North East coast, it will likely lose some steam, according to Weather.com.
