Alumni Events Spur Momentum for Tuck Difference Campaign

The Tuck campaign event series kicks off with an alumni event in London on September 25.

When The Tuck Difference philanthropic campaign kicked off this past spring, members of Tuck’s Advancement team saw it not just as a chance to prepare Tuck for the future, but also as a unique opportunity to connect with alumni in new ways.

That’s why starting this fall, Tuck will host four alumni events in the coming year—across London, New York, Boston and Palo Alto—to build momentum for The Tuck Difference: The Campaign for Tomorrow’s Wise Leaders. The $250-million philanthropic campaign, which is part of a Dartmouth-wide, $3-billion comprehensive campaign, will use funds to better Tuck’s people, programs and places. Above all, the campaign seeks the resources to attract and cultivate wise leaders who will better the world of business.

“We are responding to a real need in the marketplace for wise leadership, and everything we’re doing right now in this campaign supports that, from strengthening scholarship opportunities to creating new programs that are innovative and global,” says Executive Director of Advancement Erin Tunnicliffe, T’97.

When designing the upcoming alumni events, Tuck chose cities with large concentrations of alumni, homing in on finding one-of-a-kind locations within each city. In New York City, for example, alumni will gather at the Stanley H. Kaplan penthouse in Lincoln Center. And in Boston, attendees will gather at State Street Pavilion Club at Fenway Park. A location is in the works for the March 27 Palo Alto event, and it will feature entrepreneurship—a huge focus for Tuck. Tuck is also considering hosting an event in Hanover that would bring many alumni back home.

“We wanted to host events that would not only bring the campaign out to all of our alumni, but would also take place in an exciting setting,” says Renee Hirschberg, Tuck’s director of alumni engagement. “These events are a way for our alumni to be a part of the campaign and interact with each other in a meaningful way.”

Each event will feature a reception with commentary from Tuck alumni and faculty who will share in Ted Talk-fashion their ground-breaking research and its implications for the real world. Dean Matthew Slaughter will also appear at each event and share his thoughts on where Tuck is heading in the future. Additionally, several alumni guest speakers will share why the Tuck Difference is so important to them

“Our alumni love interacting with Dean Slaughter, faculty and each other, so we wanted to create a unique opportunity for them to do that in person,” Hirschberg says.

In addition to cultivating scholarship support for Tuck students, funds raised from the campaign will also drive faculty excellence, revitalize Tuck’s campus and technology infrastructure, and jumpstart new programs. Some of Tuck’s most successful programs, such as Bridge and Next Step, have been funded with alumni support and dedicated innovation funds.

“Our amazing alumni support is legendary, and shows a vote of confidence in how our alumni feel about where Tuck is today and also an endorsement of where we’re going in the future,” Tunnicliffe says. To date, over $140 million has been committed toward the $250 million goal.
