Ethics

As REALTORS®, we pledge to abide by a strict code of ethics that safeguards our clients and the public. The Code of Ethics of the National Association of REALTORS® imposes duties above—and in addition to—those governed by law or regulation, and apply only to real estate licensees who are also REALTOR® members.

Filing a Complaint

BEFORE YOU FILE AN ETHICS COMPLAINT

Only REALTORS® and REALTOR-ASSOCIATES® are subject to the Code of Ethics of the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR). If you have questions about filing a Code of Ethics complaint, please contact OAR at 405-848-9944 or email us. If the real estate licensee you are dealing with is not a REALTOR®, your options will include contacting the Oklahoma Real Estate Commission (OREC) at 405.521.3387.

ONLINE ETHICS COMPLAINT FORM

Once an ethics complaint is filed, it goes through a review process with representatives from across the state:

The Oklahoma Association of REALTORS® often receives questions related to filing a complaint with the Oklahoma Real Estate Commission (OREC), Oklahoma real estate laws and regulations, licensure, annual continuing education requirements and questions about OREC forms and contracts. OREC frequently receives questions that should be directed to the Oklahoma Association of REALTORS®, such as “What is the REALTOR® Code of Ethics,” and “How do I file an ethics complaint?”

To help consumers better understand the roles of each group, the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) has collaborated with the Association of Real Estate License Law Officials (ARELLO) to create a document explaining the difference between a REALTOR® association and a real estate commission.

Mediation

Mediation is a process that allows members of the Oklahoma Association of REALTORS® to voluntarily resolve disputes in a confidential out-of-court procedure with other members of the association.

In mediation, a neutral, third party helps those in conflict define issues, explore solutions and reach practical, workable, and mutually satisfactory agreements. Mediation seeks to prevent conflicts from escalating, saving everyone involved the time and expense of going to court.
