Stop Sprawl in Hamilton

The City of Hamilton has released a survey asking residents how they would like Hamilton to grow over the next 30 years. The survey is being mailed out to all households across the city asking residents to choose one of three options:

Option 1: "Ambition Density Scenario" (Urban Sprawl Option)
Option 2: No Urban Boundary Expansion Scenario
Option 3: Other Suggestions

This is our chance to tell the City Council that we want to grow sustainably within our means rather than through costly urban sprawl.

If you did not reply to the survey in the mail, fill out the form below to email the city with the preferred option 2. A copy will be submitted (to the submission email [email protected]), and a copy will be sent to each City Councillor and the Mayor.

Your engagement is important as City staff are pushing for costly urban sprawl that will allow developers to pave over valuable farmland. Developers have been lobbying City Hall for years to allow them to develop this land, and unless we say no, they will get their wish.

We know that sprawl is both economically and environmentally unsustainable. While developers will make significant profits off sprawl, existing residents will have to foot the bill for servicing costs, increasing our property taxes year over year.

There are plenty of opportunities to grow within our existing urban boundary, providing a mix of detached housing, townhouses, apartments and condos. This will allow us to make better use of our existing infrastructure, including roads, sewers and parks, while preserving valuable agricultural land. Further, it will help build more vibrant neighbourhoods, support better transit and help keep schools open.

*The Email below have been drafted to reflect Option 2, when you submit your letter, the recipient name will go in automatically along with your name and address you do not need to edit those parts.

Please include your postal code in your submission form, it is required for your submission to be counted.
