These are the best public elementary schools in the city, according to Niche.com.

NEW YORK — New York City's public schools face tough competition from the suburbs. But the youngest New Yorkers can still get a high-quality education within the five boroughs, according to a new Niche.com ranking.

The school research website last month released its 2019 list of the best public elementary schools in the New York City area.

Suburban schools dominated the list, with Jericho, Long Island's Robert Seaman Elementary School taking the top spot.

Charter schools in Brooklyn, The Bronx and Manhattan occupied seven of the city's top 10 slots, while Queens schools claimed the remaining two spots.

Niche's rankings are based on data from the U.S. Department of Education as well as reviews and survey responses from students and parents. Schools were evaluated on five factors: academics, teachers, culture and diversity, overall experience and the district's overall Niche grade.
