A Message from DBS Sounds Owner, Tobago:
As a business owner of a thriving record store for over two decades plus, I feel it is imperative to point out the importance of support. Black businesses close everyday, even when there wasn't a global pandemic, and now at an even more alarming rate. The resounding similiarity is the lack of support, especially from our own people. I am all for supporting all businesses and get that other races offer great services as well. However, it is time now for our people who are out in the community trying to make a living in business to get our support. Simply put, it is time for blacks to support black business! Too often do conversations take place concerning why a black owned business closes its doors, but not often do we hear about our people supporting those business owners. People in other race groups have been statistically found to support their
own first far more often than us in the black community. Let's be mindful that we are economic powerhouses. If we shopped with our own first we would break through the glass ceilings created to hold us back. There is enough room at the top for us all to win so don't feel as though supporting the next brother or sister will dim your shine.
Peace and blessings!
