BWAC is seeking artworks that use Coney Island as muse to depict the spirit and energy of this iconic Brooklyn neighborhood including the beach, boardwalk, attractions, people, and neighborhood. Submit your work to be considered for an exhibition encompassing it all.
Our member artists were asked to give you a glimpse into their thought processes on the pieces they are displaying. Did they work from sketches? Were they inspired by a former work of their own, or by another artist? Was their inspiration from nature or their own human surroundings? What did they do and what steps did they take to arrive at the finished artwork? Take a peak into their creative process!
The connection between the Carolinas and New York City is a strong one. This juried exhibition presents more than 50 artists who have a direct connection with North Carolina, whether living here or there. There is a broad representation of artists from all parts of the state, from the mountains to the coast.
For many artists, the freedom and immediacy afforded by working on paper is instrumental to their practices, spawning new techniques and aesthetics, subjects and methods. Works On Paper, a national juried exhibition, encompasses a diverse range of media — from drawing, printmaking, painting, collage, and beyond. Far from being confined to studies and experiments, works on paper represent important modes of art-making in their own right.
Featured artist Shirley Kaplan presents a retrospective of her paintings and drawings. expressing the interplay of ideas and forms between her visual work and her work in theatre.
