Agathor’s Vet Bill

I am Jonathan, a dog behaviorist from Brooklyn, New York. Today, I am here humbly asking for your assistance to help me with a heavy medical bill for my beloved Agathor, a beautiful six-year old husky, who is a victim of a horrible accident.

I have three dogs and they are my sources of pride and joy. Agathor came to me because an acquaintance decided he no longer want this sweet boy. On the morning of 21 January, I took my dogs to their regular walk in the park when another large dog crashed full-speed into Agathor. The impact flung Agathor to the ground. When he tried to get up, I realized his hind legs were completely immobilized. After he was rushed to the Animal Medical Center in NYC and underwent extensive examination, the vet confirmed that Agathor has ANNPE, Acute Non-Compressive Nucleus Pulpous Extrusion. Although I was relieved to hear that a full recovery could be possible, he will need 12 weeks of physical therapy and full-time special care, something I need to learn how to perform correctly from scratch.

Even for someone as familiar with dogs as me, caring for Agathor with his new disability has proven challenging. After he was discharged from the hospital, he refused food for 3 days, then suffered an unfortunate case of UTI because I did not express his bladder as fully as I thought. He was brought to Bushwick Veterinary Center, and then returned home with more medication for the infection. Since he can only walk with his front legs, I need to use a harness sling to pick up his hind legs whenever he needs to move around. But despite all the suffering, Agathor has kept his sweet and good nature. A few weeks have passed since the accident; unfortunately, Agathor’s injury is not recovering at a rate his vet predicted. His chance of a full recovery is getting slimmer, and we are now getting ready for the possibility of him being paralyzed for the rest of his life. He has regain some sensation for his bowel movement, which helps me understand when he needs assistance for his #2 business. However, messes still occur daily and I have to spend a lot of time on cleaning him and his enclosure. 

I am ready to dedicate as much time as needed to Agathor's full recovery, but on top of the amount of time required by the full-time special care, I also have to take care of my other two dogs. This means I will be forced to reduce my workload, making paying off Agathor’s medical bills extremely difficult. The owner of the other dog is willing to help to an extent, but the remaining balance is simply too monumental for me to bear by myself.
