DrCat's background includes degrees in Government (Dartmouth), Geology (North Carolina State), Environmental Science & Engineering/Environmental Management & Policy (UNC-Chapel Hill); Civil Engineering (Colorado State), and Multimedia Journalism (U. Maryland), plus extensive training in Education-Based Marketing and Online Education and Certifications in Coaching, Facilitation, and Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) and Mastermind Development and Facilitation.

In 2012, DrCat founded WaterCitizen to provide affordable, accessible online water news, education, and "WaterTainment(TM)" for "people passionate about water."
