Join us for a 19th century afternoon tea at the historic Patterson Homestead. The Patterson Homestead (est. 1816) is the former home of Revolutionary War soldier and Lexington, KY founder Colonel Robert Patterson and NCR founder John H. Patterson.

Your afternoon begins with a tradition that spans several generations: the afternoon tea. This tradition has its roots in England, where it quickly spread and became a treasured pastime for women in Victorian America. At the Patterson Homestead, we serve in the style of the traditional afternoon tea: three delicious courses consisting of breads, sandwiches, and desserts, all based upon historic Victorian-era recipes. Guests are welcome to try two varieties of our loose-leaf teas, a black tea and herbal tea chosen especially for the themed tea program.

Sit back and enjoy as you learn about the Patterson family, the historic Homestead, and life in Victorian America. After the tea, you are welcome to tour the Patterson Homestead at your leisure, with costumed interpreters available to answer any questions you may have.

The program will take place between 2:00pm and 4:00pm. Guests shall meet at the banquet hall entrance into the Patterson Homestead, where they will be greeted by a costumed interpreter. It is strongly recommended that you arrive 15 mintues early.
Join us for a tour of the Patterson Homestead!

Originally the home of Revolutionary War soldier Colonel Robert Patterson, the founder of Lexington, Kentucky and Cincinnati, Ohio, this Federal-style historic house museum tells the story of Dayton’s influential Patterson family. Colonel Patterson first settled here in 1804, and upon his death in 1827, Rubicon Farm (the name of his land) covered 2,038 acres. Constructed in three major components between 1816 and 1850, this legendary home raised three generations of Pattersons, including John H. Patterson, the founder of National Cash Register Company. He established the headquarters of NCR roughly a half-mile northwest of the Homestead on the original family land.

In 1953, John H. Patterson’s nephew Jefferson Patterson donated the Patterson Homestead to the City of Dayton—its six period rooms showcase 18th and 19th century antiques and Patterson family artifacts. Over time, more family-related artifacts have been added to the collection, and an exhibit gallery was included to tell NCR’s groundbreaking story.

Held in July, Settler Survival Camp at Carillon Historical Park is five days of early settlement fun. The Miami Valley comes to life from an early settler's perspective during this exciting camp. Learn about historic woodworking, early travel methods, hearth cooking, textiles, gardening, and so much more!
