The Independence Fund
Established in 2007, The Independence Fund is dedicated to serving the Warfighter Community. We offer programs and services aimed at fostering the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual independence of our servicemembers, combat Veterans, their Caregivers, families, and Allies who served in combat alongside them. Our initiatives encompass innovative mobility and adaptive technologies, suicide prevention, Caregiver and family support, and advocacy for Veterans with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, government agencies, legislators, and allied partners at federal and state levels.
Leading with Integrity
Sarah Verardo assumed the role of CEO in 2017. Throughout her tenure, The Independence Fund has been a stalwart in financial stewardship, donor trust, and transparency.
Drawing from her personal experience as a Caregiver to her husband, a catastrophically wounded Veteran, Sarah intimately understands the challenges endured by Veterans and their families. She leads with compassion, empathy, and a dedication to empowering this community of heroes.
Mobility Program
The Independence Fund's hallmark Mobility program provides Veterans with equipment, like all-terrain trackchairs, as well as opportunities to take back their physical independence.
Caregiver Program
The Independence Fund serves the Caregivers of our nation’s heroes by providing resources, opportunities for respite, community, and connection peer-to-peer support and empowerment.
Family Program
Supporting a Veteran’s entire family is the best path towards full independence. Our Family program provides opportunities to engage in specialized activities alongside their peers.
Advocacy Program
The battle doesn't end for Veterans returning home with scars of war. The Independence Fund’s Advocacy team fights on Capitol Hill to ensure the ongoing needs of Veterans are met.
