Guided meditation: Drop-in 2:30 to 3:15 p.m. Aug. 20 with health and wellness coordinator Liz Paley. Meditation is the practice of mindfulness, which means paying attention in the present moment. The class includes gentle stretching exercises and guided meditation practice. No experience necessary.

Senior Cinema: 12:30 p.m. Aug. 21, “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” will be shown. British retirees travel to India to what they believe is a newly restored hotel. Less luxurious than advertised, the Marigold Hotel nevertheless slowly begins to charm in unexpected ways. This comedy stars Judy Dench and Bill Nighy.

Gentle chair exercises: 10 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays in the Senior Center living room. Chair exercise meets on a drop-in basis throughout the summer with health and wellness coordinator Liz Paley. This low-impact program is best suited for people getting little or no activity, and is based on the Matter of Balance program aimed to increase strength, balance and coordination. No class Aug. 26.

Durable medical equipment loan: The COA has items such as canes, walkers and tub benches to borrow. Call Linda Dallimore at 978-929-6652 and allow a couple days to gather the equipment. The COA also takes donations of clean, gently used equipment. Call the COA first to be sure a specific donation can be used. Crutches are not accepted.

Smoke alarm and COA detectors replacement: The Acton Fire Department continues to replace and install battery operated detectors in seniors’ homes. This grant funded program is intended for senior citizens who live alone with no one else to help and are unable to climb a ladder. To schedule a visit: 978-929-6652.

Volunteer opportunities: Kitchen volunteers Mondays or Fridays for 1 1/2 hours each week and Meals on Wheels drivers/substitute drivers to deliver meals to home bound seniors one hour a week are needed. To volunteer: 978-263-5053.
