The Nancy F. Walker Scholarships for
Classical Vocal and
Instrumental Students
HOW TO APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS
To expand our longtime mission to advance the careers of young classical instrumentalists and singers, Matinée Musicale holds an annual competition for high school and college juniors and seniors.*
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS LISTED BELOW MUST ALL BE EMAILED TO: matineemusicalescholarships@gmail.com, AND RECEIVED BY: Monday, January 16, 2023.
- Scans of a completed Application AND Signed Release Form, which will be provided at a later date.
- A YouTube.com link to a short video (no more than 5 minutes in length) of applicant playing or singing classical music. Do not attach the video file to the email.
- Letter written by applicant explaining their future plans.
- Letter of recommendation from the applicant’s primary music instructor.
AUDITION INFORMATION:
Candidates selected for auditions will be notified of audition schedule via email during the week of January 23, 2023.
Auditions will be held in person on Saturday, February 11, 2023, location TBA.
Memorized audition music must be 8-10 minutes in length, in at least 2 contrasting classical styles.
Provide your own accompanist, if needed, and bring 3 copies of the music, one of which must be the original published sheet music (not a photocopy), for the judges.
Top Award winners must commit to perform on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 for the Scholarship Recital and Luncheon at Greenacres Arts Center, 8400 Blome Rd, Indian Hill, Cincinnati, OH 45243.

Nancy Fuldner Walker, memorialized by these scholarships, was a musician, music teacher and strong advocate for all music and arts organizations. She provided able leadership to Matinée Musicale for more than four decades before her death in October 2017. Matinée Musicale Cincinnati honors her legacy of support and encouragement of young musicians through these scholarships.
*ELIGIBILITY
Students who reside or attend school in Butler, Clermont, Hamilton, and Warren counties in Ohio; Boone, Campbell, and Kenton counties in Kentucky; and Dearborn County in Indiana are eligible to receive scholarships.
