Night at the Museum - Thursday, September 9th, 5:30-7:30pm

Please join your fellow Rotarians for a pleasant evening at the Global Village Museum, 200 W.  Mountain Ave. (Old Town) on Thursday, September 9th, from 5:30 to 7:30pm. Beer, wine and soft drinks will be served together with savory snacks. Two new exhibits: “How We Hold It: Containing Our Lives” (Main Gallery) and “Color and Pattern: The Spirit of West Africa” (Hall Gallery) are now featured. The Village Arts and Mundoville Galleries also have been recently revamped.

Rotary entry for this event (Museum and Refreshments) is just $10 per person. Please reserve your tickets online or contact Judy Boggs at 970-218-0943.

How We Hold It:  Containing Our Lives will be curated by Martha Denney, Museum co-founder and longtime board member.  The exhibition will explore one of the earliest tools – the container – devised by humans as a way to collect, carry, protect, and preserve foods as well as other valuable goods.  “We rarely give thought to this concept, but when examined more closely, we realize our lives have been shaped by the box, bag, basket, bottle and bowl,” Martha said.  “Using containers, we categorize, organize, transport, and preserve the things that sustain us.  Boxes have also promoted world trade and the exchange of goods across oceans.”

Color and Pattern:  The Spirit of West Africa is a curated companion show to Wandering Spirit: African Wax Prints which is currently on view at the Avenir Museum of Fashion and Merchandising. Both of these exhibits will explore the colonial ties within West African wax prints and beads as well discuss the cultural and historic importance of the vibrant colors and patterns within beads and textiles.  Color and Pattern was curated by two former CSU students, Fiona McAliney and Sam Sedoryk.
