Atallah Genomics Lab

Welcome to the Atallah lab homepage! We are honored that you’re interested in our work.

The past few decades have been revolutionary for the biological sciences. One of the most surprising findings has been just how much diverse life forms have in common. We share a near-universal genetic code, and the Hox genes control embryonic patterning in organisms as diverged as mice and round worms.

If we all have so much common at the genetic level, what’s behind our obvious differences? Our lab addresses this question by looking at animals that are very closely related and that differ in only a few traits. We then seek out the origin of these differences at the developmental and genomic levels.

We use both molecular biology and bioinformatics to tackle the questions we’re interested in. The lab is a collaboration of people with wet lab and computational skill sets.
