Yuanyuan Yi, PhD

I am currently a research assistant professor at the National School of Development, Peking University in Beijing, China. I am an affiliated research fellow of the Environment for Development (EfD) Initiative. I obtained a Ph.D in Economics from the Department of Economics at University of Gothenburg, Sweden in June 2017.

My research interests include:

  • Environmental and Resource Economics

  • Development Economics

  • Applied Economics

My research focuses on the economics of natural resource governance in developing countries. Much of my work focuses on forest and land management policies, rural development, and fishery policies and trade analysis.

Much of my work include impact evaluation on the forest devolution reform in collective forest areas, and the incentive and management in state-owned forests in China. Currently, two of my main projects are: 1) development of a global mapping tool for assessing the relative economic viability of forest restoration in the developing world; and 2) the economic characteristics, priorities, and challenges, market connections between China’s fisheries policy, seafood production, and international trade.

I have also worked on land and tenure policies focusing on African countries. I have related work on large farm investment, impact evaluation on the Climate Smart Agriculture project underway in Zambia, and land valuation in Rwanda.
