Establishing a System of Peer Review: On-Campus Production-Based Research Working Group

Convenors: Claire Carolan Ray Louter, James McKinnon, Ursula Neuerburg-Denzer, Sandra Chamberlain-Snider

Description
(from the original call for participants

The research that occurs in on-campus productions is often an overlooked site for knowledge production, mobilization, reflection and review. Many tenured or tenure track theatre scholar/practitioners are at a loss for critical, constructive and informed feedback on their work in on-campus production settings. Graduate students also lack access to a peer review process that can provide additional insight into their on-campus production research in a manner than can be used in portfolio or CV content. Currently there is no formal system of peer review available to Canadian scholars whose research is emergent of, connected to or facilitated through their work on on-campus performance productions.

Participants are invited to propose an on-campus production for peer review, volunteer as a reviewer and/or attend the presentation of peer reviews of the second round of case studies in the On-campus Peer Review Pilot Program.

Following the presentation, participants are asked to attend the workshop to determine next steps for years 3 and 4 of the project. The workshop portion of this session is structured to address 5-7 key concerns coming out of of the second phase of the pilot program including the finalization of best practices for vetting of proposals, qualifying of reviewers and dissemination of outcomes and plans for year three. Year three is seen as the pivotal year in which development of the process will be completed with the official launch occurring in year 4. Discussion points will be the subject of a 10-15 min brainstorm/information gathering session (mediated and time-limited intense discussion period in order to use the allotted time as efficiently as possible.)

All are invited to view the work from Pilot project year 1 at https://ccarolan9.wixsite.com/peerreviewprototype.
