Link a Search Ads 360 advertiser with Adobe Analytics

Adobe announced that it plans to deprecate support for OAuth 1.4 on August 18, 2021. To avoid issues in Search Ads 360, advertisers using OAuth 1.4 to integrate with Adobe Analytics must switch to Adobe JWT for authentication prior to the deprecation of OAuth 1.4.

Although advertisers using OAuth 2.0 to integrate with Adobe Analytics are not impacted by the deprecation of OAuth 1.4, we strongly encourage all advertisers to switch to Adobe JWT for a better authentication experience.

Before you start

Shared Floodlight configurations

If your Search Ads 360 advertiser is part of a shared Floodlight configuration, you can only link the parent advertiser with Adobe Analytics because you can only create Floodlight activities from the parent advertiser (all of the child advertisers will have access to the Floodlight activities created in the parent).

In Search Ads 360, sign into the advertiser that is associated with the parent Campaign Manager 360 advertiser and link to Adobe Analytics from there. You'll need agency manager or advertiser manager permissions for this Search Ads 360 advertiser.

If the parent Campaign Manager 360 advertiser isn't linked to a Search Ads 360 advertiser:

  1. Create a Search Ads 360 advertiser and link it to the parent Campaign Manager 360 advertiser.
Learn more about the permissions needed to complete this step.

The Search Ads 360 advertiser you create won't affect the child advertisers, and you can ignore the advertiser after you link it to Adobe Analytics.

  2. Link the new Search Ads 360 advertiser to Adobe Analytics as described below.

Two URL parameters will be added to all landing pages

Make sure your landing pages can handle the addition of two URL parameters: gclid and gclsrc. Once you activate the conversion API, Search Ads 360 will automatically append the gclid and gclsrc parameters to all landing page URLs in the advertiser. Learn how these parameters may affect other URL parameters or URL fragments.

Linking an advertiser to Adobe Analytics

Search Ads 360 supports the following authorization methods when linking an advertiser to Adobe Analytics.

  • Adobe JWT (new authorization method). Recommended for all advertisers. Required for advertisers currently using OAuth 1.4 and for advertisers who are setting up Adobe Analytics integration for the first time.
  • OAuth 2.0 (classic authorization method). Only available to advertisers who are currently using this authorization method.

How to link an advertiser to Adobe Analytics using Adobe JWT (new authorization method)

If you’re currently using OAuth 2.0 (classic authorization method), we strongly recommend switching to Adobe JWT (new authorization method) for a better authentication experience. If you’re setting up Adobe Analytics integration for the first time, you must use JWT. In addition, if you’re currently using OAuth 1.4, you must switch to JWT before Adobe deprecates OAuth 1.4.

Here's the overall process for linking an advertiser (the details are provided later in this article):

  1. Create a Service Account (JWT) integration in Adobe Developer Console. Search Ads 360 uses this integration to receive authorization for downloading reporting data from Adobe Analytics.
  2. In Search Ads 360, enable the Conversion API and the Adobe Analytics integration (JWT).

Create a Service Account (JWT) integration in Adobe Developer Console

  1. Sign into Adobe Developer Console.
  2. Follow the instructions on the Adobe site to Add API to project using Service Account (JWT).
    1. At the “Add an API” step, click Adobe Analytics.
    2. At the “Configure API” step, click Service Account (JWT).
    3. At the “Create a new service account (JWT) credential” step, click Option 1: Generate a key pair. This will download a config folder to your computer. In the folder is a file called private.key. You’ll need the information in this file later when you enter your Adobe Developer Console credentials in Search Ads 360.
  3. After you’ve finished adding the API, in the Adobe Developer Console, click your project and ensure that the Adobe Analytics API appears under "Products & services."
"Products & services" area in Adobe Developer Console

Make sure that the user who created the JWT integration and private key in the Adobe Developer Console has permission to access the report suites and eVars you want Search Ads 360 to import. If the user creating the credentials in the Adobe Developer Console does not have the appropriate permissions, the Search Ads 360 integration won’t have access to the Adobe report suites and eVars. Ideally, the user creating the Adobe credentials should have System Admin permissions. However, in some cases, Web Service API permissions might be sufficient. Learn more.
  4. In the left navigation menu, under “Credentials,” click Service Account (JWT) to see the following credential details you’ll need to copy into Search Ads 360:
    • Client ID
    • Client Secret
    • Technical Account ID
    • Organization ID

Special permissions required

In Search Ads 360, your Google account needs agency manager or advertiser manager permission.

How to enable the integration

  1. In Search Ads 360, navigate to an advertiser.
Steps for navigating to an advertiser
    1. Click the navigation bar to display navigation options.

    2. In the "Agency" list, click on the agency that contains the advertiser. You can search for an agency by name or scroll through the list.

    3. In the "Advertiser" list, click on the advertiser.

    4. Click Apply or press the Enter key.

Search Ads 360 displays the advertiser page, which contains data for all of the advertiser’s engine accounts.

  2. In the left navigation panel, click Advertiser settings.

Don't see Advertiser settings? Only Search Ads 360 agency managers or advertiser managers can see Advertiser settings in the left navigation panel.

  3. Turn on the Conversion API (this is required to enable Adobe Analytics support):

    1. Click the Integrations▼ tab and select Conversion API.

    2. Toggle Conversions API to On.

    3. Click Save.

  4. Link Search Ads 360 with an Adobe Analytics property:

    1. Click the Integrations▼ tab and select Adobe Analytics integration.

    2. Next to Adobe Analytics Integration, click the settings icon (Settings gear).

    3. Toggle Adobe Analytics integration to On.

    4. If you’re currently using OAuth 2.0 and want to switch to JWT, click New authorization method.
Advertisers who are setting up Adobe Analytics integration for the first time must use JWT, so they won’t see the “New authorization method” or “Classic authorization method” options. In addition, advertisers currently using OAuth 1.4 must switch to JWT, so they won’t see the “New authorization method” or “Classic authorization method” options either.

    5. In Client ID, enter the Client ID from the Adobe Developer Console.

    6. In Client secret, enter the Client Secret from the Adobe Developer Console.

    7. In Company or organization name, enter the name of your company or organization.

    8. In Organization ID, enter the Organization ID from the Adobe Developer Console.

    9. In Technical Account ID, enter the Technical Account ID from the Adobe Developer Console.

    10. In Private key, enter the information from the private.key file you downloaded from the Adobe Developer Console. When you copy the info from private.key, do not include the first line (-----BEGIN PRIVATE KEY----) or the last line (-----END PRIVATE KEY-----).

    11. Click Save.

    12. After you see the authorization confirmation, close the window, and then click Save.

Search Ads 360 starts connecting to your Adobe Developer Console integration. When the connection succeeds, the edit panel closes and a note appears in the notification center.

If the connection doesn't succeed, the edit panel displays an error message. Make sure you entered the correct client ID and secret.

Next steps

Add report suites to Search Ads 360.
After you link to Adobe Analytics, Search Ads 360 needs time to retrieve the list of report suites and report metrics you have access to.
