Thank you for your interest in this professional learning series, Supporting Multilingual and Immigrant Students with Financial Aid, hosted by the Multilingual & Immigrant Student Support Team (MISST) at the Division of Multilingual Learners in collaboration with uAspire.
The series consists of 4 sessions, each held virtually, on a Tuesday, from 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm.
Session 1. Tuesday, September 26, 2023. New York State Dream Act.
Participants will learn about eligibility requirements for the NYS Dream Act to ensure undocumented students and families with various immigration statuses can access New York state grants and scholarships to fund higher education. Participants will be able to facilitate completion of NYS Dream Act applications, including follow-up steps after submission.
Session 2. Tuesday, October 3, 2023. College Scholarship Search Profile, Part 1.
The College Scholarship Search (CSS) Profile is an online application used by colleges and scholarship programs to award non-federal institutional aid. Students and families with various documentation statuses can benefit from understanding this process.
Session 3. Tuesday, October 10, 2023. College Scholarship Search Profile, Part 2.
The College Scholarship Search (CSS) Profile is an online application used by colleges and scholarship programs to award non-federal institutional aid. Students and families with various documentation statuses, including those who are undocumented, can benefit from understanding this process.
Session 4. Tuesday, March 26, 2024. NYS Dream Act Refresher and Q&A for Undocumented StudentsThe passage of the DREAM Act in New York opens up eligibility to apply for state aid to undocumented and other students. This training will provide practitioners with an overview of eligibility requirements, highlight the steps to apply for state aid, and provide opportunities to practice with student scenarios.As a reminder, NYC Public Schools does not ask about or track student immigration status, and schools should make resources and information pertinent to immigrant communities available to everyone in the school community.We are looking forward to seeing you!
