DML Presents Fall 2023 CRS Family Engagement Workshops: Coalition for Asian American Children and Families (CACF)

Culturally Responsive Family Engagement Series - with Coalition for Asian American Children and Families

This professional learning series is brought to you by the Division of Multilingual Learners (DML) in partnership with Coalition for Asian American Children and Families (CACF). 

The current workshops available are: 
  • Death by a Thousand Cuts: How Microaggressions Harm AAPI Students and Families (Tuesday, October 24, 2023: 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM): This workshop will start with a brief overview of the first series of workshops from spring 2023. Participants will then explore forms of microaggression, how they harm AAPI students and families, and how to address microaggression.
  • Anti-Blackness within the AAPI Community: How to Nurture Compassion While Acknowledging the Tension (Tuesday, November 14, 2023: 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM): In this workshop, participants will understand the historical and global context of anti-Blackness and explore ways to shift the discourse within the AAPI communities, while acknowledging the historical and contemporary tension between AAPI and Black people. Guest speakers will include Afro-Asian solidarity group representative and AAPI historian. 
  • Mental Health and AAPI Part 1: Stigma and Challenges for AAPI Students and Families (Tuesday, December 19, 2023: 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM): In this workshop, participants will become familiar with the stigma and challenges faced by AAPI students and families around mental health through a conversation between panelists of AAPI parents and students.
  • Mental Health and AAPI Part 2: Cultural Responsiveness and Mental Health (Tuesday, January 23, 2024: 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM): In this workshop, participants will learn what culturally responsive social emotional learning looks like and how to ensure mental health services are delivered in a culturally responsive manner to AAPI students and families.
