A 50-year-old man died after a branch of a tree fell on him at Panchupali village under Anandpur block of Keonjhar district around 7am on Wednesday amid Cyclone Yaas triggered heavy winds.

Heavy rain accompanied by strong wind damaged houses and uprooted trees in many parts of Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.
KEONJHAR: A 50-year-old man died after a branch of a tree fell on him at Panchupali village under Anandpur block of Keonjhar district around 7am on Wednesday amid Cyclone Yaas triggered heavy winds.

“The man, Purnachandra Nayak, was on his way to worship in a village temple when a branch fell on him resulting in his death. He has concrete roof house,” said Ashish Thakare, collector, Keonjhar.

Special relief commissioner said that the landfall process started at 9am near Dhamra.
Though the intensity of the storm was less than predicted earlier, heavy rain accompanied by strong wind damaged houses and uprooted trees in many parts of Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.
Bhubaneswar and Puri were largely spared by the cyclone with no significant impact on life and property.
NDRF and Odisha police personnel continued restoration works even before the storm was over by cutting fallen branches of trees to ensure road connectivity.
NDRF and police personnel rescued 10 people when their boat capsized in Erasama area last night.
