Celebrating 200 Years of Marine Fisheries Management and Conservation
On June 10, the campus at the Morehead City Headquarters Office will transform into a celebration of 200 years of state marine fisheries management and conservation in North Carolina. The Bicentennial Jamboree is part of a year-long celebration commemorating the passage of the first statewide marine fisheries law in North Carolina. This and numerous subsequent laws passed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, eventually led to the establishment of what is now the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries and the North Carolina Marine Fisheries Commission.
Lifetime Coastal Recreational Fishing License Raffle
Neuse Sport Shop has volunteered to sponsor a Jamboree Passport raffle, and the prize is a Lifetime Coastal Recreational Fishing License! The raffle is open to North Carolina residents aged 18 and under. Participants will visit the exhibits listed on the passport to get stamps, then return the fully stamped passports to be entered into the drawing.

Welcome Tent
Children can pick up a passport, collect stamps throughout the event and turn in for chance to win a lifetime fishing license! Morehead City Fire & EMS will be available to provide first aid, if needed.

Ethical Angling
Discover what it means to be an ethical angler! Learn how to throw a cast net, setup your fishing rods, and tie a variety of fishing rigs. Talk to staff with the NC Saltwater Fishing Tournament about how to get rewarded for your outstanding catches.
Marsh Tank
Visit a salt marsh ecosystem and learn about what the Division does to protect coastal habitats. This living salt marsh tank is filled with plants and many species you would find in the marsh.
Touch Tank
Take a close look at the fishes and invertebrates commonly found on artificial reefs all along North Carolina’s coastline.
Artificial Reefs
Build your own reef! Use miniature reef building materials just like the Artificial Reefs team does off the coast of North Carolina. Be sure to check out the life-sized materials and equipment used to build artificial reefs.
Fish House Display
Visit a replica retail fish market with real fish. Learn how to identify the different species that are common in North Carolina waters and how to measure them.
Sampling Boats
Watch gear demonstrations and discuss survey techniques with Division staff. See trawl, gillnet, and electroshocking boats that are used for data collection.
NC Marine Patrol in Action
North Carolina Marine Patrol, the oldest state law enforcement agency, has a new Swiftwater Rescue Team! They'll conduct mock rescues throughout the day.
Tagging Program
Learn how biologists track fish movements through the Multi-species Tagging Program. Play a fishing game, see tags and tagging equipment, view real fish, and learn how to report a tagged fish to get a reward.
Carcass Collection Program
Learn how biologists can tell the age of fish donated by fishermen using the fish’s earbone. Find out why collecting that information is vital when assessing the health of the fish populations. Put your own aging skills to the test with a fun activity.
Water Quality
Join the Shellfish Sanitation and Recreational Water Quality team and test your water quality knowledge by answering questions on an interactive quiz board. Learn how to identify pollution sources that impact our coastal waters with demonstrations on a 3D coastal landscape.
License and Statistics
Learn about the different ways the division collects fisheries data by playing a variety of fun, kid-friendly games.
IT - Drones
The NC Department of Information Technology will feature a range of state-of-the-art unmanned aerial vehicles used by the Division. Witness firsthand the capabilities and versatility of the machines that are revolutionizing the way the Division maps North Carolina’s shoreline and coastal habitats.
Carteret Community College
Tour the Carteret Community College aquaculture facility, the North Carolina Marine Training and Education Center, and the college's living shoreline.
