Transportation Services Now Offering Commute Planning Assistance

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 28, 2018) — The number of ways to get to, from and around the University of Kentucky has been growing rapidly in the past few years, with the addition of free rides on Lextran via the BluPass program, the bike voucher program, the “cash out” incentive program and, most recently, car sharing. To help students and employees more easily navigate the wide variety of transportation modes available, Transportation Services is now offering free personalized commute planning assistance.

“Our goal with commute planning assistance is to simplify the alternative transportation options and help people select the best fit for their needs,” said Sandra Broadus, alternative transportation manager for UK Transportation Services. “In a recent campus-wide Transportation Services survey about commuting habits, 30.7 percent of respondents indicated that they have considered switching to an alternative mode of transportation. We hope to increase the number of people who participate by offering commute planning assistance.”

When signing up for commute planning assistance, students and employees will be able to indicate which alternative transportation modes they would like to try, as well as their desired starting and ending points. Participating students and employees may choose to receive this feedback via email, phone or at an in-person meeting, and may also opt to have a student transportation ambassador accompany them on a trial run of their planned route.
