Our partners have worked to put together a fantastic set of breakout sessions. You'll choose your break out session during the event, however, in order to help our facilitators plan their breakout, we'd love your help. 2 pm - 3 pm Session 3: Breakouts

Please choose only one option from the following breakouts:

4A: Labor Outreach // Summary: Discuss the history and current landscape around coordinating with labor in this work, as well as the potential for collaboration as we look forward to 2021.

4B: Research and White Papers // Summary: Help us shape ReImagine Appalachia’s goals for research in 2021. Potential topics for future research projects include repairing the damage, sustainable transportation, the co-op model, renewable energy, and exploring how to quantify the costs of “doing nothing.”

4C: Building Political Power // Summary: How do we organize to build the political will to advance our policy platform, and what does the work we do together look like?

4D: Centering Community Justice // Summary: Discuss how this campaign can center community justice, with a focus on how we gather and share the stories of the impacts of federal policies, so that we can ensure that our advocacy work is grounded in, and lifting up, the experience of Appalachians directly impacted by these decisions.

4E: Public Health Intersections // Summary: Discuss how Public Health intersects with our blueprint goals, and establish goals and potential research needs for bringing this analysis into our broader work. Note: it’s not likely that RA will establish a separate arm of work around public health at this time, the goal of this conversation is to address the intersections of public health with our current policy priorities.

3 pm - 4 pm Session 4: Breakouts

4A: Community and Labor Standards // Summary: This session will start with values. What are the values that public investment should fulfill and what are the policies that could ensure this investment maximizes benefits for all communities? We’ll provide an overview of the role that community and labor standards have played in other places, common guidelines that are included in these, lessons learned from previous efforts to enact community benefits standards in federal policy, and opportunities for this work in 2021.

4B: Local Governments and the Grassroots // Summary: What might municipal/grassroots partnerships to implement federally funded programs look like? Let’s discuss the criteria and process to achieve a successful partnership. Share your experience working with small governments and explore potential strategies to work collaboratively together in 2021.

4C. Sustainable Finance // Summary: Learn about ReImagine Appalachia’s work in this arena and help us shape our goals for 2021. What are the policies we need, and who are the players we should be working with to jump start a new wave of sustainable finance opportunities in the region?

4D: Federal Policy: Congress // Summary: Analyze the legislative landscape in Appalachia, and discuss Congressional policy focus for ReImagine Appalachia in 2021. How will we work together to make sure that federal policy works for Appalachia?

4E: Grassroots Engagement // Summary: What are some ways for “regular people” to plug into work like ReImagine Appalachia that we could cultivate and develop? How do we build grassroots power to collectively work for federal legislation?
