Prime Minister Scott Morrison has announced that the Government will be reopening the Christmas Island Detention Centre, after Parliament passed the medical evacuation bill.

Some residents on the island fear it will hurt the tourism industry, but others say it will boost the local economy.

While the Shire of Christmas Island CEO has raised concerns that the medical facilities will not be able to handle anyone with a serious condition.
