Innovative Solutions to Food Insecurity, produced by Michael Pagano, spring 2018
This documentary short (7 minutes) was commissioned by the St. Louis Food Funders Collaborative to illustrate the impact of their pooled fund, investing in addressing hunger and food insecurities in the St. Louis region – Innovative Solutions to Food Insecurity. The grant awarded $10,000 to community-based organizations using innovative methods to address food insecurities in their local St. Louis neighborhoods.
The things that we are doing right now are not working, clearly. Unequal opportunities and barriers in access to healthy food result in poor health and low food access in the City of St. Louis. 26.8% or 85,400 St. Louis residents are food insecure.
Innovative Solutions to Food Insecurity (the video) looks at what is being done by a network of diverse grant recipients. They are each filling a particular niche in their community with new and responsive ways of creating food economies that are healthy, equitable, and affordable.
