Anytime Korean

Anytime Korean is an interactive and engaging textbook series ( Beginning 1, Beginning 2, Intermediate 1, Intermediate 2 ). It provides powerful practices for quickly acquiring listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in Korean through carefully designed systematic learning steps grounded in pedagogic research that is proven most effective.

Each lesson of the books consists of three major parts (as shown on the chart below).

Part I includes model conversations, vocabulary, expressions, and culture. Grammar points, expressions, and cultures can be acquired through contextualized hands-on activities.

In Part II, students can use that knowledge from Part I to write, engage in guided and spontaneous conversation, and give presentations. The activities in Part II are designed for both teachers and learners to be able use the target language most of the time in class. They reflect the theories of Conversation Analysis, Scaffolding, Zone of Proximal Development, and Comprehensible Input.

Part III (available with the intermediate series) provides students with a chance to prepare for the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK).

Pronunciation Practice, Interpretation Practice, and Performance Practice (called PIP Lang) aims to provide learners with real-time interaction with virtual Korean speakers in conversation. Leaners can best improve oral performance after studying Guided Conversation or Spontaneous Conversation in the Anytime Korean textbook.

In our program, learners can practice Korean via various platforms, including print, website, and mobile app devices. The series and the accompanying audios, videos, and mobile application help learners build hands-on communication skills in Korean through an integrated practice of listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

Anytime Korean Beginning 1 aims to provide a solid foundation in Korean, including Hangeul (the Korean Alphabet), high-frequency vocabulary, common sentence patterns, and speakers' daily communication skills. An emphasis is placed on the ability to apply the target expressions and associated functions in various encounters in life. Anytime Korean Beginning 2 aims to provide a solid foundation in Korean, high-frequency vocabulary, common sentence patterns, and phrases for daily communication continuing from Anytime Korean Beginning 1.

Anytime Korean Intermediate 1 aims to build on the foundation of Korean gained in Anytime Korean Beginning 1 and 2. It includes high-frequency vocabulary, common sentence patterns, and speakers' daily communication skills. It emphasizes the ability to apply the target expressions and associated functions in various encounters in life. Anytime Korean Intermediate 2 aims to build on the foundation of Korean gained in Anytime Korean Beginning 1 & 2 and Intermediate 1.

The content, procedures, and layout in the books are a result of the collaboration of the authors, who have many years of Korean language teaching experience. The dialogues and examples are based on conversational analysis research and include authentic language and culture. The model conversations reflect contemporary Korean used by native speakers in their 20s and 30s and include contemporary and colloquial expressions, such as shortened forms of words, with explanations of formal and unabbreviated and formal expressions as needed.
