Publisher's summary

Soul mate (noun): a person ideally suited to another as a close friend or romantic partner.

Podcast host Zola is smart, sexy, and opinionated. When wealthy app developer Khalil calls into her show to correct her, she won't let him off the hook without a fight. The more they talk, the bigger the sparks. Could it be love?

Contains mature themes.

Very Good Listen

I really enjoyed listening to this book. I have to the actual book and when I saw it was on audio I had to get it. The narrators did very good. They brought Zola and Khalid characters to life.

Narrators

The the story was pretty good but both narrators was simply awful!!! I’m so sick of Leon Nixon narrating with something in his mouth. I’m sick of hearing him breathe every time he pause. I usually avoid books that list Nixon as the narrator and after this narration I will continue to avoid. Only to hear Shari Peele doing that same mess. She was reading like she had something in her mouth too. AND I don’t want to hear her swallowing. Who is producing this mess?I’m about to put Ms Peel on my list too. SMH Author’s please stop using these two…SERIOUSLY!

Great Short!

This was my first time listening to this author. She did a great job on this short! I will be looking for more audio books from her. Great Narration!

Slow Smolder, Long Throaty Narrators

I tried but zoned out several times during the listen because of all of the backstory, unnecessary description, and random details without any action. It takes forever for them to meet, especially for short book. I was 8 chapters in before they said hello. The relationship between Zola and Khalil was rushed and sped through to explore more of the friend and family connections.
Narration
Zola is 25 but the narrator sounded mature and made the young phrasing of some wording sound awkward. Her voice may also be the reason that the love scenes were bland, she sounded like she was explaining the logistics of lovemaking from a text book versus being the character who enjoyed it. I didn't have any complaints about the male narrator.

All in all, it was a decent listen until something great comes along. I don't feel like I wasted my $. I just kept waiting for it to get good, like does something amazing for the family that the author spends so much time explaining, or for a twist, like one of the homeboys was her sister baby daddy, or something memorable, like he buys her an entire radio station or the record shop that she loves, but it was just alright. Standard romance to take up the time and everyone has the right to be average.
