Although the highly anticipated film A Star Is Born isn’t out until Friday, Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper unveiled the song “Shallow” from the soundtrack last week.
Cooper directs and stars in the romantic drama, portraying a country-rock singer who helps coax Gaga’s character into the spotlight. The duet shares the struggles of both characters, beginning with Cooper’s opening line asking if she’s “happy in this modern world,” to which Gaga later responds, “Aren’t you tired tryin’ to fill that void?” Both characters are searching for something, which they find through each other, as Gaga discovers her confidence and impressively belts the chorus.
Lady Gaga also posted a music video for the song that features clips from the movie, making us even more anxious for Friday’s release. Prepare to get chills when the chorus comes around.
Check out the full lyrics below.
Tell me somethin’, girl
Are you happy in this modern world?
Or do you need more?
Is there somethin’ else you’re searchin’ for?
I’m falling
In all the good times I find myself
Longin’ for change
And in the bad times I fear myself
Tell me something, boy
Aren’t you tired tryin’ to fill that void?
Or do you need more?
Ain’t it hard keeping it so hardcore?
I’m falling
In all the good times I find myself
Longing for change
And in the bad times I fear myself
I’m off the deep end, watch as I dive in
I’ll never meet the ground
Crash through the surface, where they can’t hurt us
We’re far from the shallow now
In the shallow, shallow
In the shallow, shallow
In the shallow, shallow
We’re far from the shallow now
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Whoah!
I’m off the deep end, watch as I dive in
I’ll never meet the ground
Crash through the surface, where they can’t hurt us
We’re far from the shallow now
In the shallow, shallow
In the shallow, shallow
In the shallow, shallow
We’re far from the shallow now
