Our Mission
Camp Myrtlewood operates exclusively for charitable and religious purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code; to provide an outdoor setting where persons and groups may find spiritual renewal, education and recreation; to provide opportunities for persons to mature in Christian faith and character as an extension of the life of the church in human experience; and to be open to include persons and groups whose purposes are in harmony with those of Camp Myrtlewood without discrimination because of color, creed or ethnic origin.
In addition to its primary mission of hospitality, the Camp Myrtlewood Board of Directors recognizes that it has a duty to demonstrate and teach a reverential respect for creation. This Eco-Stewardship mission has been expressed in a number of on-going projects to restore the land and the water to their natural state.
- Camp’s forestry practices have been recognized as a Certified Sustainable Forest by the Northwest Natural Resources Group.
- A major portion of Camp’s land has been protected from commercial exploitation by means of a Conservation Easement Agreement with the Wild Rivers Land Trust.
- Camp has adopted a formal eco-stewardship plan describing its policy concerning the land and water in each localized area e.g., no timber cutting or development of trails in certain areas.
- We have an on-going stream restoration project to recover habitat for salmon, otters, beaver, etc.
