CARY, N.C. (WNCN) – A chase involving a Wake County deputy ended in a two-vehicle collision on U.S. 1 south Wednesday evening and one man is now behind bars.
Officials say a Wake County deputy attempted to pull over a black Volkswagen which led to the chase.
The black Volkswagen was traveling southbound on U.S. 1 rear-ended a red Volkswagen around 5 p.m., officials said.
Two people were injured with one suffering serious injuries, according to Town of Cary officials.
Timothy Cox, 24, of Apex, is charged in connection with the incident. He is facing one charge of felony flee/elude arrest with motor vehicle.
According to court documents, authorities were attempting to stop Cox “for speeding and driving careless and reckless” when he tried eluding the deputy and then caused a crash.
The road reopened before 9:45 p.m.
Traffic was backed as emergency responders closed southbound U.S. 1 to investigate. Traffic was diverted off the highway onto Tryon Road.
