More than 30 Fort Collins, Windsor wrestlers qualify for state tournament

Rocky Mountain's Alec Hargreaves booked a return trip to the state tournament with a regional title on Saturday.

Fort Collins and Windsor wrestlers will be well represented at the high school state tournament next week.

Every Fort Collins city team qualified at least three wrestlers for state, and both Rocky Mountain and Windsor won regional titles on Saturday. In total, there are 34 combined wrestlers qualified from the four city schools, Windsor and Resurrection Christian.

The top four regional placers from each weight class per region qualify for state.

The state tournament runs Thursday through Saturday at Pepsi Center.

Here is a look at the local qualifiers.

5A Region 3

Poudre qualified six wrestlers to state from the tournament at Westminster High School.

Tony Garcia Lopez placed fourth at 106 pounds. Dylan Whitesell placed third at 120. Dean Noble won the 126 regional title with a 7-3 decision in the championship match. Walker Heckendorf took second at 132. Alex Alvarez won the 138 title with a technical fall in the final and Patrick Golden took second at 182. 

Poudre finished fourth as a team in the region won by Pine Creek.

5A Region 4

Fort Collins, Fossil Ridge and Rocky Mountain all competed in a regional at Legacy High School.

Rocky Mountain won the Region 4 team title with a dominant 235.5. points with Legacy second at 192.

The Lobos qualified nine wrestlers for state. Lance Johnson won the 106 title by pin in the title bout. Zak Aweida finished fourth at 120. Christian Dehererra was second at 126. Kolten Strait was second at 132. Rider Anderson finished third at 138. Trey Hardy won the 160 title with a pin in the championship. Ashton Romero was fourth at 170. Matt Kinerson won the 182 title with a 9-3 decision in the title match and Alec Hargreaves won the 195 title with a pin. 

The SaberCats qualified four wrestlers for state. Marshal Scott finished fourth at 113. Michael Bolduc took fourth at 126. Cody Ginther placed third at 145 and Ben Parker was third at 160. 

The Lambkins are sending three wrestlers to state. Bohdan Salcido qualified by placing third at 106. Max Brabson finished second at 138. Hudson Cropp finished fourth at 152. 

Fossil Ridge finished fifth in team scores and Fort Collins was ninth.

4A Region 1

Windsor won the region at Thomas Jefferson High School with 258.5 points, with Grand Junction Central second at 242.

The Wizards qualified 11 wrestlers for state. Brady Parker won the 106 title with a 6-4 decision in the title match. Will Vombaur won the 120 title with a major decision in the title bout. Boden Baker finished third at 126. Dominick Serrano won the 132 title with a pin in the championship match. Ronny Minjarez finished second at 138. Brennan Todd was third at 145. Josh Willis was third at 152. Tristan Perez won the 160 title with a 5-1 decision. Cody Eaton took second at 170. Isaiah Salazar won the 182 title by pin and Tyler Grasmick won the 195 title with an 8-6 decision. 

3A Region 2

Resurrection Christian qualified one for state with Eddie Lemos placing fourth at 132.
