We (or at least, at my age, I) have seen many a jewelry trend flit in and out: Nameplates, then long, layered gold necklaces, then spikes, then cuffs, simple statement jewelry, then diamond necklaces worn backwards, as exhibited on the Oscars' red carpet by the likes of Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Lawrence. But an interesting twist that'll hopefully take off comes (PUN ALERT, YOU GUYS) courtesy of San Francisco-based sex toy start-up company Crave.

Last year, Crave's innovative flash-drive-slash-vibrator raised $100,000 through a crowdsourcing investment website and garnered tons of online attention. This year, Ti Chang, the brains behind Crave, realized there was another untapped double-tasking market to plumb for inspiration. According to HuffPo, she's created "foreplay jewelry," a line of necklaces and bracelets meant for both aesthetic and erotic pleasure.

One sample product is The Droplet, a 43-inch stainless-steel chain that will retail at around $100 and can be slipped underneath clothes for so-called "discreet play." Another is a bracelet that doubles as handcuffs.

Frankly, as a person who certainly doesn't use their beautifully-beaded vintage clutch as much as she should, the idea of wearing a sex toy around your neck on a date is immensely convenient as well as appealing. Sure, it's good to know which everyday items can get you off, but a cute necklace can serve a dual purpose.

While the sex toy industry is currently worth among $5 billion, much of this revenue comes from high-end male sex toy products. (The popular Real Dolls, made popular by the Ryan "Baby Goose" Gosling movie Lars and The Real Girl, retail for around $10,000) Contrastingly, Chang says that the world of technologically savvy female-geared sex toys is rather limited: "While we have beautifully designed iPhones and laptops, the sex-toy space is so heavily stigmatized that it doesn't draw a lot of talent."

Would you wear a necklace that doubles as a sex toy?

Writer. Things I appreciate: Ghosts, white wine, men who look like they could protect me from predators, and a great homemade deviled egg. Also, I have a VERY ambivalent obsession with Sex and The City but I'm not like any of them, other than maybe Miranda's cat.
