You may know him for being the former CEO of your favorite place to get lattes, but Howard Schultz may have a new career path. On Sunday, January 27, ex Starbucks head honcho Schultz tweeted that he was "considering running for president as a centrist independent."

In an interview with The New York Times, Schultz said that he would be going on a three-month cross-country tour for his new book From the Ground Up: A Journey to Reimagine the Promise of America, which comes out January 28. Schultz said he would use that time to decide if he wanted to formally declare a presidential run.

However, many Democrats are not enthused about a Schultz presidential campaign. As Business Insider reports, before the news of his potential presidential run officially broke, Washington State Democratic Party Chair Tina Podlodowski said in a statement, "I have two words for Howard Schultz on a potential run for president as an independent: Just. Don't. Too much is at stake to make this about the ambitions of any one person."

Schultz also sat down for a 60 Minutes interview with Scott Pelley, during which the former CEO said that running as an independent would be good for America.

"I want to see the American people win. I want to see America win," he said. "I don't care if you're Democrat, independent, Libertarian, Republican, bring me your ideas, and I will be an independent person who will embrace those ideas, because I am not in any way in bed with a party."

Schultz was CEO of Starbucks until he stepped down in April 2017, and he stepped down as chairman in June 2018, making the news of his presidential run seem even more imminent. He has previously been critical of Donald Trump's presidency, and during a Starbucks quarterly forum meeting in 2017, Schultz condemned the acts of violence in Charlottesville, Virginia.
