DEACON MICHAEL DEVON HARDY transitioned from this earthly life on Friday, June 16, 2023, at his home in Littleton, North Carolina.  He was born on January 20, 1948, in Enfield, North Carolina, and was the ninth child of the late Plummer Fletcher Hardy and Lovie Omega McWilliams Hardy.

Michael grew up in a loving Christian home with his parents and siblings: Shelda Jean, Lillie Mae, Willie Arnell, George Winton, Elaine Jacqueline, Lovie Faye, and also three brothers who preceded him in death: Plummer Fletcher, Jr., Troy Carlton, and Robert Roosevelt.

Michael’s parents taught him about the love of God and took him to Sunday school and church. During his early life, he accepted Christ as his Personal Lord and Savior, was baptized by  Dr. Frank B. Weaver, and was formerly a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Enfield, North Carolina. In 1997, Michael was first ordained as a Deacon at Zion Baptist Church in Washington, DC. He was invited to serve at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina, and was also ordained at the New Mount Olive Baptist Church in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He received an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Eastern North Carolina Christian College in 1990.

Michael received his formal education in the Halifax County Public School System and attended Eden Elementary School, Pittman Elementary School, and Inborden High School in Enfield, North Carolina. After graduating from Inborden in 1966, he followed in the footsteps of his father and older siblings, and furthered his education at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, North Carolina.

While at A&T, Michael met “Bennett Belle” Cynthia Faulcon, they fell deeply in love and were united in marriage. Our gracious Lord blessed their union with a precious son, Christopher Devon Hardy. Michael was a loving, devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

Michael served for twenty years with the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia in Washington, DC. During his tenure, he became certified by the department as a Crime Scene Search Officer. He remained in that position until he obtained the technical credentials necessary to become the Crime Analyst for the department’s First District Headquarters. After retiring from the police department, Michael joined the family business, Automated Information Management, Inc., where he was responsible for the administrative and financial affairs of the corporation.

Michael’s favorite pastimes included singing, playing golf, and watching sports on TV, especially NASCAR racing. He was a dedicated student of the Holy Bible, always made himself available to offer kind service to others, and possessed a clear, well-defined perception of  strength and character.

Those remaining to continue Michael’s legacy of love are his loving  wife, Cynthia Hardy of Litteton, NC; his son, Christopher Devon Hardy (Camille) and grandson, Syre Devon Hardy all of Leesburg, VA;  his granddaughter, Milan Ayala of Altadena, CA;  two brothers, Willie Hardy of Enfield, NC, and George Hardy (Sandra) of Greensboro, NC; four sisters, Shelda Lassiter of Winston-Salem, NC, Lillie Rooks of Greensboro, NC, Elaine Holland (Anthony) of Clinton, MD, and Lovie Leach of Indian Head, MD;  three sisters-in-law, Eleanor Hardy of Charleston, SC, Ruby Hardy of Durham, NC, and Willema Hardy of Alexandria, VA; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
