3/26 NRP - 1-5 pm $175 for BEST® attendees plus $35 for the online portion (please note the date chance to FRIDAY from orginally sunday)

Are you prepared for the unexpected?

Midwives attending childbirth in homes and birth centers seldom encounter emergencies, but when a crisis occurs, lives hang in the balance! It is difficult to remain proficient in skills so seldom practiced, yet pregnant women rely on the expertise of the provider in an emergency.

What you get:

This content is tailored to students, birth assistants, or experienced midwives. The BEST® course includes a systematic approach to:

  • Recognizing the high-risk pregnancy
  • Pain and bleeding in pregnancy
  • Complications arising in pregnancy
  • Managing Complications of Birth
  • Postpartum Emergencies
  • Neonatal Emergencies

Birth Emergency Skills Training (BEST®) is now a HYBRID format with online learning modules followed by hands-on skills training and simulations.

This innovation better accommodates the busy schedule of working midwives and reduces physical contact to better protect ourselves, our clients, and their babies from COVID-19.

The new program combines 8 hours of online learning with an 8-hour hands-on skills practicum completing the 16-contact hour workshop accredited by ACNM (1.6 CEUs). Bridge Certificate Program (13 - Maternal Emergency and 3 - Newborn). NRP Certification offered as a half-day add-on (discounted price for B.E.S.T.® attendees).

Advantages to this new format are:

Allows ample time to move through the online program in preparation for the skills practicum. Lectures may be repeated and paused as needed, protocols updated while actively learning, and there are printable pdfs not previously offered. The focus here is to provide the necessary foundation to fully participate in the hands-on skills practicum.

  • The course is followed by 2 quizzes of 25 questions each ---to solidify the information. Learners must score 80% or higher to complete the online program and be eligible to attend the hands-on skills workshop.
  • Allows full focus on hands-on skills with realistic, instructor-facilitated skills stations. The new flow also provides ample time to practice together, network, and share stories in small groups.
  • Protects birth communities from COVID-19 by limiting the total number of participants the hours spent together while providing the opportunity to practice essential birth emergency skills and earn CEUs.
  • Allows for the effective training of more birth workers to recognize, respond and treat developing birth emergencies, contributing to safer out of hospital births and assisting to decrease maternal/neonatal morbidity and mortality.

The online program MUST be COMPLETED PRIOR to attending both BEST® and NRP. Links to access the program should be sent at least 14 days prior to the skills workshop.

  1. The online portion for BEST will take approximately 8 hours to complete.
  2. We advise you to start the online portion as soon as possible! You will need to complete this portion BEFORE attending the in-person workshop, so do not wait until the night before to begin!

SKILLS DAY WORKSHOP:

  • We begin at 9 am and end at 6 pm. It is a long, fast-paced, day of learning, so encourage participants to come well rested, well prepared, and ready to participate fully. Participant effort and engagement directly correlates to the effectiveness of skills practice and mock scenarios. PLEASE ARRIVE BY 8:40 am!
  • Skill stations are set up in each room. Half the group moves through the skills stations in one room while the other half moves through a different set of skill stations in the other.
  • Debriefing sessions follow skills, providing the opportunity to share and learn from one another.
  • This rhythm is repeated throughout the day with a ½ hour lunch break.

OTHER INFORMATION

  • Babes in arms are welcomed because a little nursing will usually quiet them down, however, toddlers can be disruptive.
  • Lunch is only 30 minutes long! Please pack a lunch as there will not be time to go grab some lunch. A microwave will be available to use.
  • If you can, please carpool, Heidi Hennigan Cohen is hosting this at her home and parking is limited.

COVID PRECAUTIONS

We are limiting this training to two groups of 9 participants, plus 1 teacher. Each group will be in a separate room and will switch rooms halfway through the day to help promote social distancing.

We will have hand sanitizer available and we ask all participants to mask during this event.

If you become sick or you have recently been around anyone that has any COVID symptoms, we cannot have you attend the event. We will issue a “Return to BEST” receipt for use at any venue within 1 year. Please contact the host as soon as possible as there may be a waiting list of participants.

*REFUND POLICY

Ifyou are unable to complete the training, we cannot issue partial credit for CEUs nor a refund. Instead, we issue a “Return to BEST” receipt for use at any venue within 1 year.

We look forward to providing you the BEST workshop for midwives faced with emergencies.

If you have any questions you can contact the host.
