It rains on Sarah’s wedding day. As luck would have it, she isn’t getting married. Instead she’s riding her bike, Cecelia, through the soggy English countryside and trying to figure out where her plans for a simple country wedding went wrong.

When Cecelia is stolen and Sarah is stranded in the tiny village of Hope, she refuses to call her fiancé, Amir, to be rescued. Instead, she accepts the help of Michael, a self-sufficient farmer who left his big city dreams—and his cheating fiancée—for a simple life in Hope.

Michael uses the village calling tree to spread the word about Cecelia. In return, Sarah helps Michael on his farm, where she soon discovers a hidden talent as a chicken whisperer, persuading Michael’s rebellious chickens to lay. Before long, Sarah sees all she’s been missing in her city life—family, community, fun—and Michael thinks he may just have found the perfect partner for experiment in simple living.

But when her fiancé tracks her down and begs her to come home, Sarah must choose between a straightforward life with a near-perfect man or a reckless adventure with Michael.

Do you ever feel like running away from your current life and moving to a small, quaint town where nobody knows you? Yes? Well, so do the protagonists of this book.

Maggie Wild has written a fairly pleasant and cute romance novel, complete with vivid descriptions, third person storytelling, and wonderful characters. This was my first book by her, and supposedly the first in the Hope Valley series (named after the English town where the characters are based).

Sarah is a lovely character to root for - she's smart, independent, and loves adventures (which she proves by driving on a bicycle through the unknown countryside for hours at a time). Michael is your classic hard-working farmer, who has been jilted by a former lover before, but still possesses a kind heart and soul. Joined by a fun and unique array of side characters, this makes for a nice read.

On principle, I'm not a huge fan of stories that push the couple to-be together in the name of love, all while making one of them cheat on their existing partners. This one, however, sits smack in the gray area of what is right and what is wrong. Albeit, the romance progresses fairly slowly between the two characters. Or fast, if you think about the fact that it happens over the span of 2 weeks.

Recommended for readers looking for a quick escape, and those who prefer their romance on the lighter, quirkier side.

A sweet romance, really likeable characters and charming setting. Lots of the action happened off screen though like Sarah breaking off the wedding, ending it with her fiancé and when she went home with Michael— all scenes that had I read would’ve added a lot more emotion and depth to the narrative so I disagree with the choice to leave them out. I just felt I didn’t know enough about the character and the story to rate any higher.

What a cute book it was.
This book was simply beautiful.
It was like watching a movie with a happy ending. This book was about a woman, it was about making your own life choices. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in this series. I loved the writing. Maggie Wild has a very easy way of writing that manages to keep you completely gripped.

Thank you to the Netgalley for this lovely book in exchange of my honest review.

First time reading this author, but not the last.

Such a cute story of learning to choose what's important.

Sarah is biking from London to Scotland when she stops for the night at a local b&b due to inclement weather. The next morning her bike is stolen, and she decides to stay longer until the custom bike is recovered.

Michael is such a down-to-earth guy. He has a small sustainable farm and also lends a hand to his sisters (who run the b&b). He barters for everything he needs, and he's very connected to his place and the area.

I really liked the setting and the secondary characters in the small village, and Michael's sisters. Sarah had to make some hard decisions to choose between the seemingly easier life path and the harder one with the potential to be more fulfilling.

I'm looking forward to the next books in the series.

Adorable cover!

I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

After my mother’s death and insurrectionists stormed the Capitol, I was desperate for an escape (and preferably one outside the US). I found one in Maggie Wild’s Simply You, the first book in A Hope Valley Romance series.

Sarah is a runaway bride from London, or in this case, a runaway daughter-in-law. Her fiancé’s mom is overbearing and judgmental, and her husband-to-be insists “this will pass.” Sarah isn’t so sure. Desperate for space to think, she hops on her beloved bicycle named “Cecelia” to pedal her way from London to Edinburg. When Sarah stops for the night in a small England town, someone steals Cecilia, leaving Sarah stranded. Sarah decides she’d rather stay put until the locals can help find her bike than cut short her much-needed break from her family to be. And if the innkeeper’s brother, a handsome farmer, needs help to encourage his chickens to lay eggs, she might as well make herself useful.
Simply You is more than a romance. It’s about a woman questioning her life choices, independence, insecurities, and childhood fears. Simply You is a sweet story about a small England town with an endearing cast of characters searching for happiness and their place in the world. Maggie Wild is clever and witty writer. I am looking forward to reading the second book in the series, Back to You (Spring 2021).

“Simply You” was just the great escape I needed. A sweet and engaging modern romance, it allowed me to travel vicariously as Sarah, the lovely protagonist, cycles through the British countryside on her bike, which she affectionately calls “Cecelia”, to shake things up a bit and try to figure out what, for her, is the good life.

Her stop in the village of Hope – it’s a real place! – got me day-dreaming and mentally planning a future vacation. It’s so warm and welcoming. I want to ride my bike there and stop for a cuppa tea and a scone (or two), then stay for a few nights of deep rest at the inn and hearty meals at the pub.

Sarah is a smart, complicated, and engaging heroine who craves freedom and values self-reliance – or so she says. I loved meeting all the characters who support and challenge her, and the two handsome and charming men—Amir and Michael—who want to make all her dreams come true. Does that mean finding true love, or finding her true self? I was with Sarah at every step as she figured out her own happy ending.

Four Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐
A bicycle ride through the English Countryside, a charming Bed and Breakfast, and a Farmer who will sing to his chickens. This is all you really need to know to find this book in your to-be-read stack.

Publishers Blub: Sarah Tildon thinks she's found the perfect man. But after her overbearing future mother-in-law insists her quiet country wedding become a high-society shindig, she sets out on a two-week ride to rethink her plans. Stranded when her bicycle is stolen in a picturesque hamlet, she's touched by the kindness of a handsome young farmer who comes to her rescue.

The big city failed Michael Marsden's ample ambitions. After his fiance cheats on him, he turns his back on the hustle and bustle and takes on a farm to prove he can lead a self-sufficient life. And taken by surprise when a charming outsider helps sing his hens into laying, he realizes his newfound Eden is missing its Eve.

My Take: This book took me on a fun journey through the English countryside. I enjoyed the setting very much. I especially liked Micheal, the farmer who left a busy, lucrative living in London to live sustainably, and simply on his parents land in the tiny village of Hope Valley. His love of his farm, his family, his village, and even his chickens make him a very endearing character.

Sarah was a bit more complicated. I loved her adventurous spirit, but was disappointed with her lack of self awareness. She obviously isn’t suited for, or in love with her fiance, but it takes her forever to figure it all out. And I would have preferred for her to break off her engagement at least before getting involved with Michael. I understand that life is messy, and we don’t always do things in the order that we should, and I can see why the author wrote her this way, but it just didn’t sit right with me.

I still recommend this book, the scenery, the hero, and the delightful village characters are enough to make this a worthwhile read.

Simply You - 3.5

The book started off with Sarah biking around England to compose her thoughts, after delaying her wedding day with her fiancé Amir. When her bike got stolen during her time at Hope Valley, she decided to extend her stay in hopes of having her bike returned and for her to finally decide about the wedding.

The love story was simple, yet its genuineness touches the heart of the readers. I am glad that Sarah decided to stay in Hope Valley in the end to live with Michael. They both deserve each other and the love that they have found. On the other hand, I was sad with how Amir’s overbearing (supposed to be) mother-in-law was the reason why Sarah’s relationship with him went adrift. Amir is a great guy, but he tolerates his mother’s wishes too often which leaves no room for Sarah to have her own opinion on things, so I was relived that Sarah realized this before she married Amir.

For the setting of the story, I love everything about Hope Valley. The people, the country life vibe in the story gave a peaceful and serene mood. I would have wanted this book to have a higher rating, but the ending before the epilogue left too many things unsaid on how Sarah dealt with Amir and the life she left behind. It lacked the closure that the readers needed.

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

1.5 stars.

I wanted to like this book. I thought the premise was cute and, as an avid romance reader, I can definitely see the merit in a story like this. Where this story lacked was execution.

The story was very choppy and not at all cohesive. I could understand Sarah wanting to take the time away from her fiance and the wedding that grew out of control due to an overbearing mother in law, but meeting another man and him falling for her in the span of a week just didn't really jive. Michael's feelings developed really quickly for him to ask her to give up everything and stay. And not only that, Sarah waffled with her decision and only ended up choosing Michael not because she truly wanted to be with him but because of a really silly plot point.

I wish the author had taken the time to develop both the characters and the story a bit more. I would have loved to see more tension for Sarah as she navigated this awkward limbo where she's engaged but cares for someone else. But this book left a lot to be desired.

Much like its cover, this novel is a sweet and colorful romance, charming and pleasant to read. Sarah postpones the date of her marriage to Amir and sets off on a bicycle trip, alone with her thoughts. She arrives in a small village full of charm, with welcoming and generous inhabitants. Michael left the big city and a profession that paid well for a quieter life with his chickens and vegetables in a charming village where he lived as a child and where his sisters live. Michael is just simply lovely, he has great value, hope, he works hard and knows what is most important in life. Sarah had a complicated childhood, she moved often and was not very wealthy. Today she lives with a wealthy man but luxury does not bring happiness. Our two characters meet, share simple moments, express their dreams and get closer.
I found that everything was going too fast between them unfortunately. Sarah often repeats the same dialogue in her head. She thinks too much about her future mother-in-law among other things. As for the end ... A scene with Amir and his mom is missing.
But overall it was an enjoyable read. I was pleasantly surprised to see who stole Sarah's bike, I really liked the supporting characters and the story is very cute.

Can simple life be enough ? Sarah and Michael are the proof that love can win it all and that you don't need a Jaguar, Louboutin shoes and a toast of caviar to be happy.

English countryside is so romantic, it always works for me. It's quite refreshing that the story is not around the wealthy guy but the one who choose to ditch his Londonian life for a vegetable plot and a few chicken.

Simply You was a quick but fun read! The story of how Sarah's life became brightened up by something and someone and the moral of choosing what's best.

This a journey of not finding a prince charming but finding true happiness whether its a person or a place, in Sarah's case its both! Love how the events turned up pretty well and how the characters blend in with each other perfectly. Hope is a cozy place and somewhere I would like to visit too.

Even if this novel is just a quick read, there's a lot of swooning and smiling when there comes a part where you're just going to smile of how cute they are and how they still don't realize the right thing to do.

Eventually events turned up pretty well as I said and a lot better than what I am expecting! Perfect novel to read and finish in one sitting only to smile and swoon at the end!

I wanted to like this book, but I just couldn't. While Sarah's in-laws do sound horrible, her fiancé seemed like a very nice person. No matter how conflicted Sarah felt about their relationship and how fundamentally different they were, Sarah's fiance was very supportive. Sarah should have been honest with him from the start and while she didn't technically cheat, she definitely had an emotional affair. If her fiance had been a genuinely horrible person, I could have overlooked it, but because I think he was really nice I couldn't. It made Sarah's and Michael's relationship feel a little icky to me. I wish Sarah's trip had begun after the engagement was already over.

Simply You is a charming little story about following your heart and doing the best thing for you.

At first, the character Sarah annoyed me. I thought she had it all and was risking it all for no reason, just to prove a non-existent point. But then, as the story went on, I realised how lonely she must be. Sometimes the obvious and safe choice, isn’t always the right choice.

I instantly fell in love with Michael. I wanted him to find what he was looking for :)

All in all, this was a cute story but hasn’t left a lasting impression on me. One of those books you can pick up and read without really thinking about it.

ARC received from Netgalley for an honest review. Simply You is a cute and romantic short story. Sarah is bicycling and comes across an inn in a small town. While there, her bicycle becomes stolen. She discovers new friends and even starts to fall for Michael. Michael is a local farmer and his sister runs the inn. The bad thing though is that Sarah is engaged and has already postponed her wedding due to her future mother in law taking control of everything.
It was good to finally see Sarah take control and decide what she wanted. I like the outcome and the epilogue.

Thanks to all involved in providing me with a copy of this story in return for an honest review.

First of all, I am not a romantic person so romance novels are not what I typically reach for. When I do however, pick one up, I am looking for the “fairytale “ - simple, clean, like a Hallmark movie.

This is exactly what you will get with this book which suited me to a tee. It wasn’t a pleasant read and easy to put down and pick up again without kissing a beat.

I would consider this a strong 3.5 stars which would rate highly in terms of a romance for me.

If a handsome hero cradling baby animals and growing his own veg inspires your romantic side, let “Simply You” sweep you away to the rolling green hills of small-town England. Runaway bride Sarah Tildon finds new love amidst a lovable cast of characters in this first installment of a series of sweet romances so beautifully written you may feel the countryside’s soft breeze on your cheek, and nearly taste the freshly-baked scones and clotted cream.

This was short fun and sweet.
A cute little story about learning to choose what's important and what's not.
The thing is... it was too short and I feel that hurt the story because it lacked deep so I couldn't connect with the characters.
If this was a bit longer I think I would've enjoyed more. Still it was a good fun book.

I know we read romance stories to escape reality but the idea of Sara falling for someone else a.k.a Micheal whilst having a fiance that wasn't awful and was supportive doesn't sit well with me.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book received from the publisher via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Sometimes you are in the mood for a short simple love story, and this book hits that spot. It was so cute, and a little predictable but that didn’t matter because you couldn’t help to fall for the characters. I really liked it and I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.

Although I liked the writing, I'm not a fan of people falling for other people when they are in another relationship.
Especially when that person isn't a bad person, I'm not talking about his mother that is another story.
He could stand up a bit more to his mother but otherwise the fiance doesn't seem like a bad person.
